Mississippi wins the Trophy from Texas A&M

Ole Miss held on for a 29-19 victory over the Texas A&M Aggies, securing the jiMpossible-sarcasMike Trophy for the first time since 1967.

This was the second time this season the Rebels attempted to take the Trophy, having lost to Alabama on October 2.

  • Ole Miss is 43-14-5 vying for the Trophy
  • This marks their 5th time as Trophy holder
  • Their longest streak was 19 games from November of 1958 through November of 1961 (included a tie to retain the trophy)
  • The 19 game run was the longest between the Army 21 game holding from 1948-1950 and the USC run of 24 games from 1978-1980.
  • They followed that with a 13 game run, starting with revenge against LSU in 1962 and going until the aforementioned Sugar Bowl loss to Alabama (2 ties included this time)

Ole Miss should be favored in their final two games of the regular season - next week vs. Vanderbilt and Thanksgiving night in the Egg Bowl vs. Mississippi State.

  • The Commodores have only held the Trophy once, in 1955.
  • They defeated Tulane on 11/12/1955, and won the following week vs. Florida before falling to Tennessee.
  • Vandy is 2-16-2 in Trophy battles.
  • Their last attempt was in 2010 vs. Florida.
  • Mississippi State has defeated the Trophy-holder 3 times, most recently in 2020 over LSU.
  • The Builldogs are 4-18-2 with COVID DNP vs Auburn last year as well.
  • Ole Miss and MSU have met 5 times with the Trophy on the line the Rebels are 3-0-2 in those match-ups.

There is still a mathematical possibility that Ole Miss wins the SEC, two Alabama losses, and 2 wins plus a win over Georgia in the SEC Championship game. Outside of that, there is a slim chance the Rebels may play a B1G team in their Bowl game - increasing the chance that the Trophy finds its way back to Ann Arbor at some point.

Aggies Shock Tide to take Trophy

Not many outside of College Station saw an upset possibility for Texas A&M over Alabama.

When the jiMpossible-sarcasMike Trophy is on the line, anything can happen. Texas A&M pulled off the 41-38 upset with a walk-off field goal.

  • The Aggies are now 7-6 all-time vying for the trophy, 7-6-1 if you count Texas A&M-Commerce and their tie in the 1954 Tangerine Bowl (Arkansas St retained the Trophy)
  • This is their 4 time as Trophy holder
  • Their longest streak was 5 games from after defeating Nebraska in 1998 before losing to the hated Longhorns
  • A&M travels to Missouri this weekend
  • The Tigers have won the Trophy only one time, defeating Arkansas in the 2008 Cotton Bowl
  • They won their first 5 games to start the 2008 season before losing to Oklahoma State
  • Overall the Tigers are 6-7 in Trophy games
  • Their last match-up was later in the 2008 season, facing Oklahoma in the Big12 Conference Championship Game
  • The Tigers were the 5th, and final, victory for the Aggies in their streak in 1998

  • The 10 game streak is tied as their longest as Trophy-holder.
  • That streak ended in the 1965 Orange Bowl against Texas
  • 'Bama is 2-0 all-time against Texas A&M in Trophy games
  • The first was win the the 1942 Cotton Bowl and was 'Bama's first Trophy win
  • The Aggies are 6-6 all-time vying for the trophy, 6-6-1 if you count Texas A&M-Commerce and their tie in the 1954 Tangerine Bowl (Arkansas St retained the Trophy)

Aggies take the jiMpossible-sarcasMike trophy

Texas A&M pulled away in the second half Saturday night to defeat Arkansas 45-24 and take possession of the jiMpossible-sarcasMike trophy.

Texas A&M is 8-5 alll-time in trophy games.

This is only the Aggies 3rd time holding the trophy. They had a one week run in 1941, beating Washington State the day before the day that lives in infamy before losing to Alabama in the 1942 Cotton Bowl.
Their other time with the trophy in their case was 6 game run in 1998. They beat Nebraska on 10/10 and rattled off 5 more victories before losing to Texas.
They had 3 loses as the challenger, 1962 to LSU, 1965 to Arkansas and the Big XII championship game to Nebraska in 1997.

A quick look - makes the earliest the trophy could come to the Big Ten is in a bowl game/playoff.

Texas A&M has a pretty tough schedule going forward.
10/1 at South Carolina
10/8 vs. Tennessee
10/22 at Alabama
10/29 New Mexico State
11/5 at Mississippi State
11/12 vs. Ole Miss
11/19 vs. UTSA
11/24vs. LSU
