Rose Bowl & Modern Family

Modern Family premiered last night. At one point Claire Dunphy finds an old picture of she and Phil at the Rose Bowl (or Rose Parade - we don't see the picture). When asked about the game Phil says something like:
"...we got pummeled by Penn State"
He also mentions Angela Lansbury was the Grand Marshall.

I love Modern Family, but they mixed up their Rose Bowl years.

Penn State is 1-2 in the Rose Bowl. Their only victory came in the 1995 match-up against Oregon. However, the Grand Marshall that year was Chi Chi Rodriguez. Angela Lansbury was actually the Grand Marshall for the 1993 Tournament of Roses, where she presided over the Michigan victory against Washington.

I wonder if they just picked her so Phil could make the joke "...Good times, she wrote." If that was the case why not have the Dunphys be UW alums? To my knowledge they have no previous references to being Oregon alums. Perhaps someone on the writing staff is from Oregon or from Penn State and wanted to reference that game.

Either way, it seems Michigan's reign as the school that pops up on my favorite shows (Dharma Initiative on Lost and House and Cuddy on House) appears to have ended.

I didn't know he kept talking about it. When I heard that his wife asked him not to go to Argetina before his trip when he got caught, I was flabbergasted. I thought the entire idea of an affair was to have sex or to have companionship you don't get at home. It certainly isn't worth going to Argentina and ruining your career for sex, so he must have 'really liked' (in the 3rd grade way of 'really liking') her. Then, really, just get a divorce!!! Sure, the career could take a hit there, too, but does he really feel he is so powerful and above scrutiny that this wouldn't come back at him. I don't understand.



As for it being in the news, I don't care. I don't pay attention.



As for Michael, he may have been a freak, and whether you liked him or hated him, he was the biggest part of our the popular culture of our generation. I don't know if it makes me feel old, and I am not really mourning, but it definitely hit me in some way. I think it is just knowing that the things that were so commonly part of my HS/College years are truly disappearing. Not that there aren't good things about that, too.



We're heading up north, Me, My Wife and My Son (thus the Title) for the 4th and all of next week.



I watched some CFL last night. It is football (kindof) and I miss football, so I watched it. The plays they run are very spread option-esque, which makes sense because spreading out is easier to do on the large field. I think RR needs to get some pointers from the CFL coaches. Of course, that would probably result in a lot of illegal motion and too many players on the field penalties. HAHAHAHAHA. Never a dull moment.



But, seriously (kindof), there are two M players in the CFL. Kashama plays for Calgary and some OL named Wilson plays for Montreal. Those are my favorite two teams at this time. They played last night (I didn't catch any of that game) and Montreal won.

one more whiney Wings fan comment

I have no problem with the Wings playing at 10:30 against the Ducks in Anaheim. All games should be played at a logical time for the local site. World Series games between Detroit and St Louis should start at 7 and 8 ET. World Series games between Colorado and Seattle should start at 9 and 10 ET because that way the local fans get to see the games in their local time.

People should not have to leave work early or stay up late to see their local team play.

I would agree - I'd go with taking the MNC over attending/watching games. Where do I sign up for this?
Are you watching Harper's Island? I like the show, but I can't understand why no one is questioning where Uncle "Harry Hamlin" and the one bridesmaid are. Seems a little unrealistic that only the apparently psychic kid notices anything is wrong. (other than the people who know others are dead...)

Yes, I do remember that. It was all about the revolution (of course). I was disappointed when they stopped doing it. Imagine how smart I'd be if they had been doing it all these years.

Do you remember the "That's the way it was 200 years ago today" commercials? Some TV personality would tell a quick historical story about something that happened on that date in 1776. I don't remember anything more than the catch phrase.
