Quick Trophy Update

Clemson was victorious over Ohio State Saturday evening in the Fiesta Bowl and will take the jiMpossible-sarcasMike Trophy with them to the National Championship game against LSU.

The trophy had been held by Big Ten teams since Penn State defeated Pitt last September, 27 straight wins within the conference.

Clemson has not held the trophy since losing to Syracuse in October of 2017.

LSU has not been in trophy possession since losing to Arkansas in November of 2007.

Trophy Update - Syracuse wins the orange battle

Syracuse shocked Clemson Friday night 27-24 in the Carrier Dome to win the jiMpossible-sarcasMike Trophy.This is only the 4th time the Orange have won the trophy.
In 1917 they defeated Brown and ran off 7 more victories into 1918 before getting shut out by Michigan 15-0.

Syracuse won the trophy back in their 1923 season finale with a 7-0 victory over Nebraska. The won their first first 5 in 1924 then tied Pitt before losing the trophy to West Virginia Wesleyan.

They didn't get the trophy back until 1952, with a 25-7 win over Penn State. The secured 2 more victories before falling to Alabama in the 1953 Orange Bowl.

This was only their 4 time playing for the trophy since that defeat. The other 3 games were all losses to Miami (FL). Their first trophy game was a 30-0 loss to Yale in 1903.

Syracuse has an overall record of 18-12-1 in trophy games.

The first test seems to be the toughest. They've lost 3 straight trophy battles to the suddenly resurgent Hurricanes. It looks like the quickest way for the trophy to come to the Big Ten would be in a bowl game.

New Year - New Trophy Holder - Clemson wins!

Clemson pulled out a thrilling 35-31 victory over Alabama in last nights CFP- Championship game in Tampa.
Of course the most important thing the Tigers bring back to South Carolina is the jiMpossible-sarcasMike trophy.

This is the 5th time the Tigers have held the trophy.

• They beat Duke back in 1974 before dropping their next game to Tennessee. 
• The Tigers had a longer run the second time, taking the trophy in the 1988 Citrus Bowl over Penn State and followed with two wins to start the 1988 season before falling to Florida State. 
• Clemson had a trophy drought until 2011. They took it from Auburn in September and won 5 more before a loss to Georgia Tech. The won it back in the ACC Championship over Virginia Tech before getting blasted by West Virginia in the Orange Bowl.
• Clemson has also lost as trophy challengers in 1942, 1954, 1959, 1967, 1971 1999 and 2010. 
• This leaves their trophy game record at 12-11.

It looks like Clemson's 2017 schedule is not finalized, but they do open with Kent St and Auburn at home. They also host the Citadel and travel to arch rival, South Carolina in addition to whatever their conference schedule will be.

Clemson takes the trophy Bowling

This is Clemson's 4th time as trophy holder and 2nd this season. This is the 4th time a team has won the trophy twice in the same season. Clemson will next take the field in the Orange Bowl on January 4th, probably against West Virginia. The last trophy holder to lose their Bowl game was Arkansas losing to Missouri in the 2008 Cotton Bowl.
