Dragging out the NFL draft

I'm not a fan of the extended 3-day NFL draft. I didn't watch any of the draft coverage last night. I understand it went on past midnight.

The first round always took too long, but who cared on a Saturday afternoon. But if the choice is watching Berman and Kiper talk for 15 minutes between picks or watching Community, The Office, Parks & Rec and 30 Rock, the NFL draft loses every time.

For those of you who chose to waste time watching the draft instead - here are the NBC shows update -SPOILER ALERT - if you're waiting to watch them on your DVR

Community - Shirley had her baby - it was Andre's not Chang's

The Office - Michael's last episode - he was telling everyone he had one more day, but left a day early to head out to Boulder (he had to call Holly to find out where they were going to live)

Parks & Rec - Jerry's painting for the Pawnee govt art project showed Leslie as a topless centaur and Tom as a cherub. The townspeople were not happy with the nudity - but Leslie and Jerry tricked them in the end

30 Rock - Jack's wife Avery was arrested in North Korea. Liz was empowered by realizing she fixes all the problems on TGS, she should be able to do the same in her life. A plastic bag stuck in a tree becomes her white whale.

Meanwhile - Fairly seems like a nice get for the Lions!

I'm not sure how much of the later rounds I'll watch over the next couple days, probably not as much as I used to when the Draft first came to weekend television, that's for sure.

Alma Athletic Hall of Fame Induction

Friend of the Blog, Marisa Proctor, was inducted in to the Alma College Athletic Hall of Fame on April 9th. She was quite a diver, and still holds several school records.
Most of the other inductees were well spoken and, most importantly, spoke an appropriate amount of time.
Only one of the inductees, former football coach Phil Brooks, spoke too long. I'm sure at Alma, as at most schools, football is king and therefore is likely to take more time. But Phil made a nice night drag on and on.

He commented about finding out he had been hired in a phone call from the previous coach, Denny Stoltz, who told him he had accepted the defensive coordinator job at MSU and wanted to switch houses with Brooks. (Brooks had been coaching high school football in Lansing/East Lansing.) He went on to say how he always had a strong relationship with Stoltz.

Since I was already angry at him for talking so long, I began to think about Stoltz and what was to become of him at MSU, and in my head take that back to Brooks.

Stotlz was DC at MSU for the 1971 and 1972 seasons, then succeeded Duffy Daugherty as Spartan head coach. He lasted 3 seasons before being shown the door for recruiting violations. I've always heard that Woody Hayes went after Stoltz because of the Spartans 1974 victory over his Buckeyes, but he couldn't have made up all the violations himself...

The 3 year probation ended up costing the 1978 Spartans a trip to the Rose Bowl. Michigan, who they had beaten, ended up co-champ and went in MSU's place.

Anyway - in my mind Stoltz is a cheater, which means his good friend - the long-winded Phil Brooks is also a cheater!
